2006年1月24日 · The difference in weight between gyp-crete and concrete is not very significant IMHO. In fact the density of the concrete is an advantage, as it is more conductive. I think the primary benefit of the gyp-crete is not its weight, but its self-leveling nature.

Another option is to use a prefinished T&G engineered wood floor (Harris Tarkett, Kahr's, Award, etc.) and float it (glue the edges) over the gypcrete.

However, when he got into the project, he stopped to tell us he believed the "mud" used behind the tile was gyp-crete. This man also lays flooring for a living, so we thought he probably knows what gyp-crete looks like.

Differential expansion requires the use of an anti-fracture membrane, or isolation membrane, so that inevitable cracks in the gypcrete won't telegraph through the tile, given that the thinset bond between tile and gypcrete would be strong enough that the tile would give before the bond did.
