Gerald Finzi was born in London on July 14, 1901, and spent his early childhood in London. His father died when he was just seven and following the outbreak of the First World War Finzi moved with his mother to Harrogate, in Yorkshire.

The Finzi Friends was formed in 1982 and exists to foster interest in Gerald Finzi’s music, promote more live performances and a greater appreciation of his contribution to English music. A newsletter is published twice a year. A lecture or recital and lunch is organised at the Three Choirs Festival each year.

The Finzi Trust was founded in 1969 and seeks to further the music, ideals and work of Gerald Finzi. It has assisted individuals and organisations in a variety of ways and has initiated many projects reflecting the Trust’s policy of encouraging young artists and composers.
