George D. Sturges, an engineer at Lockheed, and his wife, Selma (pictured) saw the January 1938 edition of Architectural Forum magazine, which was devoted entirely to FLW. The Sturgeses liked an article about low-cost houses that included the plan of the Herbert Jacobs Residence in Madison, Wisconsin, a project completed in 1937.

2019年11月12日 · Considered a futuristic, architectural masterpiece, the George D. Sturges House is the only Usonian-style home, a design term coined by Wright, in Southern California. Adopted as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument on May 25, 1993, the Sturges House was considered a departure from Wright’s well-known textile-blockhouses.

2016年1月6日 · Frank Lloyd Wright's George D. Sturges residence will be sold on Feb. 21 as part of the homeowner's, actor Jack Larson, estate auction held by Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA). This marks the first time the home has been up for sale in nearly 50 years.

The Sturges House, with its balcony cantilevered over space, appears to hover like a flying saucer, its geometric elements floating in space in the best Modernist tradition. Photos of the Sturges house seen from below became iconic, adding evidence of Wright's creative resurgence during the 1930s.
