2024年7月25日 · Gear lube in the bilge on a MerCruiser usually comes from a leaking yoke seal on the driveshaft. See if you can detect the gear oil by sticking your finger on the bellows from inside the boat, or pull the outdrive and see if gear oil is in the driveshaft bellows. As for the water, I am not sure what is in that area on the IL4 engines.

2010年12月21日 · Re: Best Gear Oil for Lower unit That's an old motor. No telling how many hours it has or how much wear. Buy what the motor was designed to use. Hypoid 90. NAPA auto parts sells many oem parts and lubricants for older marine applications. I'd stay away from anything synthetic or semi-synthetic.

2013年6月14日 · Re: Gear oil in the bilge Ok I got the drive unit off, not to hard at all! There is not any gear oil in the bellows, nothing but grease. So what should I do now to find the source of the gear oil in the bilge? I will put new seals in the drive and grease all the bearings before I put the drive back in. But still need to fix gear oil leak.

(64oz) It ended up taking around 56oz to to top line on the monitor. I am sure that I drained everything completely, so I am not sure where the discrepancy is?

2003年6月9日 · You will find in the future that EP-000 will be used more often because less seal problems than Gear Oil. If your gearbox has been using EP-000 grease your owners manual should say so. There is a check plug on the side of most gearboxes and this is the fill level. It is not a good idea to mix the Gear Oil and the EP-000 grease.
