Frankenstein is a 1931 American gothic pre-Code science fiction horror film directed by James Whale, produced by Carl Laemmle Jr., and adapted from a 1927 play by Peggy Webling, which in turn was based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.

A body of 187 films feature some version or interpretation of the character Frankenstein's monster, first created by Mary Shelley in her 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. Frankenstein's Monster is a retelling of the cultural Golem myth.

For the 200th anniversary of the publication of Mary Shelley's novel "Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus," I re-read it and, then, reviewed a bunch of Frankenstein films. This list is a ranking of all of them that I've reviewed, from the classic Universal series, to the Technicolor Hammer splatters and beyond.
