Fort Worden is a 434-acre Washington State Park located by Port Townsend on the scenic Olympic Peninsula. Construction began on Fort Worden in 1890, and it formed part of a “Triangle of Fire” defense of Admiralty Inlet with Fort Casey (Whidbey Island) and Fort Flagler (Marrowstone Island).

2024年3月30日 · A strategic point of view, the high bluffs just north of Port Townsend, WA, are occupied by Fort Worden State Park and Point Wilson Lighthouse and have served as both lookout and safe harbor for indigenous cultures and wartime sailors over the millennia.

A long-established natural portage route across today’s Fort Worden State Park was used by Indigenous travelers to avoid challenging currents and waves at the tip of Point Wilson when passing from North Beach to village sites at the south end of Port Townsend.

The next morning, we went to Fort Worden State Park. We spent the morning exploring Fort Worden State Park’s defunct military bunkers, quiet beaches, and shady hiking trails.
