289 Rebuild or 302 Crate Engine - Vintage Mustang Forums
2019年7月23日 · Anyways I now have a big decision to make. Do I rebuild the original 289 that I already have around a good portion of money into about 600-800. Or do I buy a 302 crate engine. I’m a big fan of originality and this is a difficult decision for me. The shop wasn’t able to recommend anyone to rebuild the engine.

2023年3月7日 · At the minimum, keep the 289 in a corner of the garage, in case you find a good shop later. You might be able to sell the crate engine at a later date to offset the 289 rebuild cost. The last 289 I rebuilt was still running after 20 years. I sold it to a member on here about 15 years ago. No clue if it’s still running. They are great engines.

2021年2月10日 · The engine includes an Edelbrock Performer 289 intake, flame thrower coil, upgraded valve covers. Numbers matching heads/block and transmission. I do not know if the engine is a stock bore but I believe it is. This is a drop in engine/trans transplant. A perfect cost effective candidate for a 6 cylinder upgrade or to replace a tired 289.

2003年10月27日 · Just keep in mind, most newer crate motors (and all the Ford Motorsport units) use late model blocks set up for a 1-piece seal, newer 50oz balance flywheels and harmonic balancers, and no clutch linkage threads at the rear of the block for the early Z-bar linkage.

2010年2月15日 · PS is 'Passenger Side'. Dampener is the big thing the crank pulley is bolted to. Early fords used 3 bolts to bolt the bottom pulley to the 'Dampener'. Later ford changed to a 4 bolt pulley. Some aftermarket manufacturers sell a dampener with both bolt patterns. Dampner also has to be correct (un)balance factor for your engine.

That’s $2k saved there. crate engines can be had for similar cost as rebuilding because they don’t have this overhead cost, and are set up with the right tools and bulk deals on parts.
