Meals on Wheels programs and the seniors they serve need your help! There are an estimated 2.5 million seniors who are not receiving the services they need. We are urging Congress to increase funding for Older Americans Act senior nutrition programs.

Meals on Wheels focuses on caring for individuals whose diminished mobility makes it hard to shop for food, prepare meals or socialize with others. Generally programs serve adults 60 and over, although age requirements can vary by program and areas served.

Meals on Wheels can be a valuable asset for healthcare providers and insurers by helping to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations, reducing hospital readmissions and post-discharge needs through daily nutrition, socialization and safety checks.

All Meals on Wheels clients receive healthy, age-appropriate, nutrient-dense, portion-controlled meals that align with the most up-to-date dietary and hydration guidelines. These are hot and/or cold meals that are provided to primarily homebound individuals in their homes on a regular basis.

WHAT DOES MEALS ON WHEELS DO? Meals on Wheels primarily provides nutritious meals, a quick safety check and much-needed human connection to homebound seniors. In some communities, additional services that keep seniors healthy and safe are also offered, like pet food delivery, senior center meal programs, home repair services and transportation.

Fresh Meals on Wheels offers a general diet and other meals tailored to meet medical needs, including heart disease, diabetes, kidney or renal disease, celiac disease, and others. All meals can be texture-modified to meet the needs of those with chewing or swallowing challenges.
