The office of the Commissioner of Food Safety has been created for the implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.

FSSAI is the acronym for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It is a legal body offering food license to every type of food business operator i.e. FBO available in India. Accordingly, an FBO must follow the FSSAI rules and regulations to achieve food quality control.
