Feb 29, 2016 · The reason it is this big is because the model in-game has to be transformed from a pistol to a rifle fairly easily inside of Fallout 4's gun modifications system. So things like grip size, thickness, etc have to be constant across a pistol and a rifle at the same time.

I'm using upright 1911 mags for a ".45 receiver" upgrade even though the in-game model makes no physical distinction between .38 or .45 receivers or magazines.
