Expert isnt any harder, and since youll likely be re-writing 90% of the grid anyway (unless you plan on cheesing Penance with Yojimbo) I would stick with standard. Honestly, just pick the normal Sphere Grid for your first playthrough anyway. It makes for the optimal experience, no doubt.

ActRaiser had a difficulty selection added in for the PAL release, and a new gameplay mode called Action Mode (similar, but not identical, to the Professional Mode found in the US version) was added in and playable from the get go.
