Ellaville is a unique community with a blend of small town hospitality and large city conveniences. People can walk from their houses and shop for all their daily needs for food, gifts, hardware, clothing, and do their banking.

On December 22, 1857, the General assembly of the State of Georgia passed, in Milledgeville, an act to layout and form a new county out of the counties of Marion and Sumter, to be named Schley, for William Schley, a jurist of the distinction, and governor of Georgia from 1835 to 1839.

The Water Department is responsible for providing water services to all customers within in the corporate limits of the City of Ellaville and areas immediately adjacent to the city limits. The department provides services to approximately 975 water customers.
