Elizabeth Chen, Ph.D. Dr. Chen received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Peking University in 1990. After spending two years in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at UCLA, she moved to the Developmental Biology Department at Stanford University and obtained her PhD degree in 1998.

Elizabeth Chen Lab focuses research on cell-cell fusion, drosophila myoblast fusion, invasive membrane protrusions, actin binding and bundling proteins, and mechanoresponsive proteins.

Elizabeth Chen is an architect, visual artist and sculptor in New Orleans, Louisiana. She has shown work at the Aquarium Gallery, Staple Goods, DesCours and Le Mieux Galleries for group and solo shows. She her design practice centers justice in the built environment.

Dr. Chen leads the Clinical Informatics Innovation and Implementation (CI 3) Laboratory that is focused on leveraging Electronic Health Record (EHR) technology and data to improve healthcare delivery and biomedical discovery.

My research group uses a multifaceted approach including genetics, cell biology, biochemistry and biophysics to address major unanswered questions in cell-cell fusion using organisms ranging from insects to mammals.
