ZZ Top..Amp only? - The Gear Page
2014年10月24日 · Regardless of all the different 'speculated amps' that Billy G. is believed to have used - I wouldn't bother to look any further than a Les Paul into a cranked up old Marshall for any of that early ZZ Top stuff - especially his live tone. Billy probably used 100 watt Super Leads back then, but the 50 watters will pretty much do the same thing.
Best amp choice for blues rock trio: Mesa Lone Star Classic vs …
2015年8月2日 · I'm looking at buying a Mesa combo to use in my blues rock trio. We play a lot of early ZZ Top, Cream, Johnny Winter etc, Black Keys, Big Sugar, and some heavier stuff like Sabbath. My main amp is a Marshall Vintage Modern 2466 with a 1960BX 4x12 and I play a Gibson R9 LP with Bare Knuckle...
Someone explain Marshall OD to me - The Gear Page
2009年5月6日 · A JTM45 being overdriven does sound quite different from a Super Lead but both sound like Marshalls. I guess what most guys mean by "Marshall overdrive" is a big, chunky/chuggy chord sound and howling vocal-like leads, like …

Pedal recomendations for Early ZZ top | Page 2 | The Gear Page
2016年5月17日 · Regarding the question about the JHS Andy Timmons, my feeling is that pedal veers more toward the JCM800 end of the spectrum. I had an Angry Charlie, and although it is a totally outstanding sounding pedal, those really vintage type, lower gained Plexi tones are not really it's forte. My...

Speaker for early ZZ - The Gear Page
2010年11月25日 · Looking to get an early ZZ Top(LaGrange)tone out of my Mesa DC 3 112 combo.I've been running it with a Peavey Scorpion for a while, but it's a very clear speaker.Switched back to the original 50watt Black Shadow which sorta get it there.I'm thinking I need a V30 type speaker to get it there.I...
Quinn Derby - Thoughts? | Page 2 - The Gear Page
2010年11月10日 · I had a Derby that Shad made custom for me as an amp voiced for early ZZ Top tones. Shad did some cool stuff, like add a post phase inverter master, a loop that was defeatable and a vox type cut to the chassis. I ran with a Greenback in it and it did the job quite well. I traded it off a couple...
Revisiting the ZZ Top catalog today | Page 2 - The Gear Page
2010年3月16日 · If ZZ hadn't changed their musical course when they did, they could have easily faded into oblivion - like so many other bands of that time did... That was a VERY smart business move by Gibbons/Ham (along with the image change to the bearded "Indiana Jones" thing - which maded them look 50...
Revisiting the ZZ Top catalog today | Page 3 - The Gear Page
2010年3月16日 · Yeah, that's all been fixed. There's a remastered box set that's been out for a few years on Rhino, and they even remastered a few of the early individual albums. Unfortunately, only a few of them have been remastered - tres hombres and fandango. They still haven't done a clean remaster of the...
