The position of Duart was well chosen, it is sited on a high crag at the end of a peninsula jutting into the Sound of Mull. It commands the channel between Mull and the mainland, entrances to Lochs Linne and Etive and the neck of the Firth of Lorne as it meets the Sound of Mull.

Duart and the Macleans. The first recorded mention of the Macleans of Duart is in a papal dispensation of 1367 which allowed their Chief Lachlan Lubanach Maclean to marry the daughter of the Lord of the Isles, Mary Macdonald.

We have three places where you can have your wedding ceremony at Duart: outside by the single cannon looking down the Sound of Mull, in the Banqueting Hall, or in the Sea Room in the Castle. The Drawing Room is also occasionally available.

Find the location of Duart Castle. There are several ways to get to Duart Castle on the Isle of Mull, all of which will include a memorable ferry ride.

The Castle Grounds, Tearoom, Shop and fantastic views are free for everyone to enjoy! Entry to Duart Castle is by ticket only, purchased on arrival. Dogs are welcome in the Castle grounds but are not permitted inside any of the Castle, Tearoom or Shop buildings (except assistance dogs).

Maclean of Duart Gift Shop. By making the trip over to Mull you will have the opportunity to spend the day enjoying all the other attractions around Duart. Outside the Castle gates, within the Tearoom building, you will find the Maclean of Duart Gift Shop. You don’t have to pay for entrance to the Gift Shop, you can just park up and shop.
