Donner Lake, formerly known as Truckee Lake, [2] is a freshwater lake in Northeast California on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada and about 20 miles (32 km) northwest of the much larger Lake Tahoe. A moraine serves as a natural dam for the lake.

Donner Lake is a gorgeous, calm lake that has beaches for kids, Watersport rentals, and great food nearby. This year it was the warmest I've ever been in, great for swimming. Wonderful for SUP, too, as it's calm.
