I hear this 10,000 times a year. Only bc my husband once randomly asked Alexa to play the donkey song and he thought it was so hilarious, he and my eldest have Dominic the Donkey Alexa wars, playing it in whatever room the other is in allllll yearrrr lonnnnnng.

I grew up in New York and this song “Dominick the donkey” (The Italian Christmas donkey) This song! played on the radio since I was a kid in the 90s during the Christmas season and I assume still does play now (I’m 33 now but live abroad from the USA).

I have a 12 year old nephew named Dominic (and more than a few other family members.) We're an Italian family, and literally nobody has ever called him "Dominic the donkey." Many of my family members are immigrants from Italy, and I've never even heard this song. He doesn't like Dom as a nickname, but he likes to be called his full name or Nico.

Do They Know It's Christmas, on the other hand, is not a typical christmas song, it's just a REALLY bad song regardless of the throwaway reference to christmas.
