There ARE some producers that are still pushing deathstep: Havel, White Eyes, and Kroww come to mind immediately, but they are more niche and their mixdowns lack a little bit of the power as someone like Nimda, Dveight, Perry Wayne or Marauda. But hey if you are a fan of Deathstep check out Havel, White Eyes, and Kroww!

Diskirz older stuff is prime Deathstep, Evilwave, Mantis, Figure maybe? Tengraphs, Extant, Sub Artillery? Lord Swan3x, Gorgun, Kroww. Those are all artists i enjoy that more or less fit under the Deathstep umbrella. If i were you i'd just sift through the label 'Crowsnest audio' on Soundcloud, lot of good stuff on there.

Check his album Deathstep LP from 2011, which is very good despite is a little bit experimental. Other deathstep artists: KROWWW, LÜX, Static:Reset (C:P and other dude made a duo before they split), Cruel Reaction, Kretan, Tabata and Moth. There's even a more harsh style that is called Minatory Deathstep which I don't like.

Deathstep reminds me of Black Metal…like oh you make “Metal” but just with evil, horror-inspired branding motifs. Code is like the only artist that brings that to mind as a forerunner, but then Voyd and Marauda really popularized the image.

well, the boundaries for minatory are quite large and some tracks sit on the extremes where its close to deathstep or "noise". examples being osiriz - circus (venom remix) and homicidal (suffering). minatory does stem from deathstep anyway, so you are right about some projects not fitting into one category
