If you pick it up, it's extremely floppy, and has little to no smell. A dead hermit crab looks like that, but with some meat (the tail) attached, and will be semi-floppy and smell terrible.

2019年8月30日 · While crab shells are regrown within a few days after a molt, it takes them 2-4 weeks to fully harden. It could be that your crab feels it is under threat and is just being cautious. It could also be that something happened to it during the molt. Time will tell.

2024年2月7日 · If no bigger shells (homes) are available they could be trying to take the other hermit crabs shell. They could be doing the same with the snails. In the process they would kill/eat the nassarius while looking for a new home. I have a bunch of empty shells in my nano for my hermit crab to move into. I see the lil bugger in a new shell regularly.
