The Contoocook River (/ k ə n ˈ t ʊ k ə k / ⓘ) is a 71-mile-long (114 km) [1] river in New Hampshire. It flows from Contoocook Lake on the Jaffrey / Rindge border to Penacook (just north of Concord ), where it empties into the Merrimack River .

Much of the Contoocook River is enjoyed by boaters. The upper portion of the river provides a mix of quickwater and moderate rapids. Farther downstream, the Contoocook River flaunts one of the most popular whitewater runs in New England.
