2017年6月10日 · The hearth extension should be a concrete slab that is tied into the hearth. Actually it is supposed to all be poured as one slab but it rarely is. Dry pack was done for a long time but a solid slab is much better and is actually required by code now.

2007年2月15日 · A bit of insulation will really slow it down. Your 70 f slab is only losing to a 50 f ground in the middle vs your 70 f walls losing to -20 f outside. In Canada in coded areas you need vapour barrier and a drainage layer before pouring a slab, otherwise you'd get the same problems basements have with water infiltration.

2009年2月23日 · My slab-on-grade is somewhat overbuilt because of the point loading going on there from a post located every 14 feet. We used 2X12 form boards around the perimeter. The honch or outer 2 feet is thicker and has more rebar. #4 bars 12" OC. The inner slab comes up to approx. 7" thick with #4 rebar 2' OC. Blue styrofoam 2" thick is under all surfaces.

2009年8月16日 · I am in the process of inserting a jotul 500 oslo n a home on a slab. The laminate flooring is about 1/2 inch and underneath the slab has been painted/covered. I was hoping to easily lay decorative tile/slate directly on the slab and somewhat flush with the flooring but the painted concrete has taken me back a bit.

2024年12月10日 · The hearth will get warm, especially in front of the stove. How hot, I'm not sure. The slab will act like a big heat sink. My concern is that Ditra is plastic. Check with the manufacturer about max temp for install. Would it be possible to run the stove on the slab for this season and then tile the hearth without the Ditra in the summer?

2010年7月20日 · Next, I mixed the concrete with a the powdered dye and then filled in the mold working outside (because it is messy) I used a screed to level the concrete and my vibrating sander to vibrate the air bubbles out. Let is dry for about 3 days, depending on thickness. My slab was 3' X 3' and 1.5 thick and it probably weighted about 150LBS when done.
