Cleator (/ ˈkliːtər /), formerly Turkey Creek or Turkey, [2] is a near ghost town and small community in Yavapai County, Arizona, in the Southwestern United States. Cleator was established two miles from the Turkey creek in 1864 as a placer gold mining site under the name Turkey Creek Mining District after gold was found.

In 1902, a small railway camp sprang up as the Bradshaw Mountain Railroad (part of Murphy’s Impossible Railroad) worked its way to Crown King. This town would later become known as Cleator, Arizona, the halfway point on Crown King Trail. In 1864, came the establishment of the Turkey Creek Mining district.

Cleator was established in 1884 as a placer gold mining site in the Turkey Creek Mining District. A post office opened in July of 1869, but closed a few months later. James Cleator came to Arizona in 1900 to prospect in the Bradshaw mountains. In 1905 he bought half of the interest in Turkey Creek's store and saloon from Lev Pierce Nellis.
