Area: Chungthang, Ground Zero of the most devastating earth quake recorded in Sikkim. It is beyond any doubt that the national and international focus on the 18 September earthquake was due to the unfortunate deaths of innocient citizens and the most devastating destruction of properties at Chungthang.
The Chungthang dam is an integral part of the 1200 MW mega Teesta Stage III Hydro Electric Project, a major source of electricity for Sikkim and West Bengal. It is a run-of-the-river hydroelectric project commissioned in 2017.
