Like many other major cities, Mexico City has its version of Chinatown (Barrio Chino in Spanish). While Mexico City Chinatown is nowhere near as big as some of the most famous China Towns in the world, it’s a great place to try Chinese specialty foods and take cool photos against the backdrop of red lanterns and typical Chinese ornaments.

The Barrio Chino in Mexico City is a small sub-neighborhood within San Juan Moyotlan, itself a neighborhood of the Centro Histórico. A few streets are the center of annual celebrations of the Chinese New Year.

Mexico City’s China Town has existed for 100 years but wasn’t a tourist attraction until the 2018 Chinese New Year celebration. It is very small, only a few block with really only one truly Chinese block filled with restaurants and shops.
