During the Eastern Han, so-called underground palace tombs were introduced. The vertical wells appeared to be hermetically sealed from the outside, evolved towards horizontal tombs. They were accessible by a ramp, leading to underground chambers generally arranged in an axial way, and separated by stone doors.
