2025年2月27日 · Your post is a little unclear. Is the caked oil on the block or under the valve cover ? What year and how many miles on your car and how can you know the owner never changer the oil? If the oil is caked on the block, it was probably from the leaking valve cover and I would use first a small putty knife and then an engine de-greaser.

2025年3月4日 · The ticking sound is probably from the fuel injectors; normal. The long cranking time followed by misfire may be from fuel entering the cylinder after shut-off, leaking fuel injector. Or possibly from coolant entering the cylinder from a leaking head gasket.

I had a head gasket replaced by a different manufacturer, under warranty, for an external oil leak. That car, under different ownership is still on the road with 200,000 miles and 18 years under its belt.

2014年6月30日 · Back in the 70 s we would use permatex to make gaskets for everything (thermostat housing, waterpump,oil pan,intake manifold,etc) except headgaskets.iirc it said it wasn t to be used in place of a gasket only to help seal gaskets,but it held up good all on it s own as a substitute for a gasket. That s some good stuff.

2010年1月17日 · The gasket that comes with the filter is caged, and not allowed to shift. The old gasket left up there is no longer caged, and is free to shift all over the place. Go ahead and remove the filter again to get that extra gasket off. The most you will lose is a quart of oil in the filter if you allow it to drain out.
