Looking for porch solution w/no outer supports/posts
2021年1月27日 · One of my rear balconies has a 6' roof overhang without any supports. I didn't want a lot of structure, so the overhang is supported by two cantilever beams inside the exterior walls. The rafters in the overhang sit on these two beams. These need to go back a fair bit (I think it was around 10' inside the wall).
Resource for Calculating Cantilever Joist Lengths - Green Building …
2023年5月3日 · In your case, with a 60 psf design load for the roof plus let's say a 30 psf design load for the loft, the total design load is about 90 psf. (We could parse it more finely if needed.) With 16" o.c. joists, a 1' overhang and a 10' wide roof, that's about 600 pounds pushing down on the end of each joist. That's for a static load.
Attaching cantilevered roof, roof overhang, PERSIST roof, and …
2021年5月3日 · It doesn't make any sense to not cantilever the rafters if you are going for 3' overhangs. It will cost you a lot of money to find an acceptable structural solution. Like Akos said just air seal the rafters sticking out of the roof. Another solution is to wrap the insulation and the wrb around the overhang.
Ideal roof overhang length? - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2012年11月30日 · The roof support details offer a lot of opportunity for architectural expression, but they also require some careful design to transfer their loading between the roof overhang and the wall frame. Their spacing must be made to coordinate with …
Max overhang of a 2×4 rafter tail - Green Building Advisor
2019年7月27日 · At the gable ends there are two lowered trusses so outlookers on edge can fly out (6′ inside of building, 3′ overhang). I can always shorten the overhang if it seems too long for a 2×4 but I’d like to keep them as long as possible. 3′ does a good job shading the summer sun.
Where can I learn how to build very extended eaves?
2020年10月10日 · Long cantilever like that has to be designed by a structural engineer as the roof will be lifting up the far wall. Both the foundation and roof connections need to be designed for significant uplift. You can do shorter cantilevers, typical one is 1/3 out 2/3 in. Your local code should have details on how to do this. A ball park for joist sizing is a cantilever is equivalent to …
Maximizing overhang using 2x4 furring installed over monopoly …
2024年10月28日 · Zone 5b, 50 psf ground snowload. Attached is a simple drawing. I have 2×4 furring over 5″ rockwool on a “monopoly” framed house, I want to use the 2×4 furring to add the overhang, but how much overhang can I reasonably leave? It will get 1×4 furring at 18″oc in a grid on top of the 2x4s.
Overhang Length - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2023年6月16日 · Your cantilever length is governed both by the limit Michael cited, and the proportion of the framing that extends back to the wall. For practical and aesthetic reasons, I would go somewhere between 12" and 16". On a retrofit with stucco wall cladding your most vulnerable joint is going to be where the new roof meets that material.
Ventilating shed roof overhang - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2017年9月3日 · Hi, I'm building a home for a client in the PNW with a shed roof detail. The frame consists of GLB rafter beams, 2x6 car decking, 1/2" cdx, 2x6 on edge with sprayed foam to r 38, 5/8 cdx and standing seam metal roof. The pitch is 2.2/12 and the high end of the roof cantilevers 4' beyond the face of the building. That cantilever is non insulated and shows two continuous …
Framing deep overhangs air-sealed single pitch roof
2022年10月26日 · I’d like to have 18-24” overhangs on the sides and low end and a 3’ overhang on the high side if I can do it. My main concern is with the high end of the roof and the corners. I was thinking of running the 2×4 strapping out long and scabbing on 2x4s on edge beneath them and running back to the wall to support the cantilever.
