USS Philippine Sea (CV/CVA/CVS-47, AVT-11) was one of 24 Essex -class aircraft carriers of the United States Navy, and the first ship to be named for the Battle of the Philippine Sea. She was launched on 5 September 1945, after the end of World War II, and sponsored by the wife of the Governor of Kentucky.

USS Philippine Sea was built in Quincy, Massachusetts and was commissioned in May 1946. She was named for the Battle of the Philippine Sea fought in 1944. During her first few years, the ship undertook deployments to the Caribbean, Atlantic and Mediterranean. In 1947, the ship took part in the Antarctic expedition by Rear Admiral Byrd.

Redesignated as attack aircraft carrier CVA 47 on October 1, 1952, and antisubmarine warfare aircraft carrier CVS 47 on November 15, 1955, the PHILIPPINE SEA was decommissioned on December 28, 1958, and berthed with the Reserve Fleet at Long Beach, Calif. She was redesignated as AVT 11 on May 15, 1959.
