USS Midway (CVB/CVA/CV-41) is an aircraft carrier, formerly of the United States Navy, the lead ship of her class. Commissioned eight days after the end of World War II, Midway was the largest aircraft carrier in the world until 1955, as well as the first U.S. aircraft carrier too big to transit the Panama Canal .

In January of 1989, I reported to VAQ-136 onboard USS Midway, CV-41. I spent almost three years aboard her, sailing the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and the Persian Gulf. In August of 1991 I left Midway and cross-decked to USS Independence, CV-62. After leaving the squadron in 1992, I spent the next six years with two other commands in Japan.
