Protein c-Fos - Wikipedia
Protein c-Fos is a proto-oncogene that is the human homolog of the retroviral oncogene v-fos. [5] It is encoded in humans by the FOS gene. It was first discovered in rat fibroblasts as the transforming gene of the FBJ MSV (Finkel–Biskis–Jinkins murine osteogenic sarcoma virus) (Curran and Tech, 1982).
C-Fos - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
C-Fos is an immediate early gene that plays a significant role in memory formation, as indicated by research findings in neuroscience. AI generated definition based on: Learning and Memory: A Comprehensive Reference, 2008
c-Fos importance for brain development - PMC - PubMed Central …
Adult c-fos −/− mice present a ∼40–60% reduction in their body weight and their brain size is significantly smaller as compared to c-fos +/+ mice. We have shown that this correlates with a decreased brain cell number.
Current Opinion on the Use of c-Fos in Neuroscience - MDPI
The c-fos gene and the c-Fos protein are markers of cellular activity (for both neurons and glia) and easily expressed after a wide range of stimuli (both harmful and non-harmful), which makes them useful in various animal models and when used in conjunction with other labeling techniques. Currently, c-Fos immunohistochemistry is still widely ...
c-fos Expression as a Marker of Functional Activity in the Brain
The presence of Fos, the protein product of the immediate-early gene c-fos, in a neuron has become a popular means to identify neurons that participate in a given function without losing the ability to know precisely where these neurons are.
Immediate Early Gene c-fos in the Brain: Focus on Glial Cells
The c-fos gene was first described as a proto-oncogene responsible for the induction of bone tumors. A few decades ago, activation of the protein product c-fos was reported in the brain after seizures and other noxious stimuli.
A Brief Introduction to the Transduction of Neural Activity into Fos ...
The immediate early gene c-fos has long been known as a molecular marker of neural activity. The neuron’s activity is transformed into intracellular calcium influx through NMDA receptors and L-type voltage sensitive calcium channels. For the ...
c- fos regulates neuronal excitability and survival - Nature
2002年3月4日 · Our results suggest that c-fos is a genetic regulator for cellular mechanisms mediating neuronal excitability and survival.
c-FOS: Molecular biology & detection for analysis of neuronal …
2020年9月21日 · Due to the rapid increase in levels and early response of this proto-oncogene, c-fos has been dubbed an ‘immediate early gene’ as an early responder to various cellular perturbations including electrical stimulation, exposure to serum, growth factors, and neurotransmitters.
Review c-Fos: An AP-1 transcription factor with an additional ...
2014年9月1日 · c-Fos expression is rapidly up-regulated after addition of NGF to cultured PC12 cells which induces neuritogenesis. If together with NGF, cells are fed a Nuclear Localization Signal Peptide (NLSP) that blocks the import of AP-1 transcription factors into the nucleus, neuritogenesis is abrogated despite the fact that c-Fos is expressed normally.
