In oil and gas piping applications, a bypass valve is a type of valve used to divert or redirect the flow of fluids within a system. It is designed to create an alternate flow path, allowing the fluid to bypass certain components or sections of the piping system.

The bypass line is to be drawn from the pump's vent port or the discharge pipe's vent port, either back to the suction side (if possible) or into a tank, in order to ensure sufficient cooling by the pumped medium.

Bypass piping should be installed so there is no way to collect liquid in the bypass piping. The air flow should be straight through to the component being bypassed, with the bypass loop going up and over, or to the side of the component. Do this to avoid problems.

Hot Tap Bypass: Hot Tap Bypass is comprised of Hot Tapping and Line Stopping. Hot Tapping is created to safely access a pressurized system by cutting or drilling into the pipe, while under pressure. Line Stopping start with a hot tap, but is intended to stop the flow of gas in the pipe.
