Kidron Valley (classical transliteration, Cedron, from Hebrew: נחל קדרון, Naḥal Qidron, literally Qidron River; also Qidron Valley) [1] [2] [3] [4] is the modern name of the valley originating slightly northeast of the Old City of Jerusalem, which then separates the Temple Mount from the Mount of Olives, and ending at the Dead Sea.

The first biblical reference to the "brook" Kidron occurs in connection with David's flight before Absalom (II Sam. 15:23). In the time of the divided monarchy, the reforming kings of Judah, Asa, Hezekiah, and Josiah, cast away and burnt the various idols which defiled Jerusalem there (I Kings 15:13; II Kings 23:4, 6, 12; II Chron. 15:16; 29:16).

Kidron = Kedron = Cedron, turbid, the winter torrent which flows through the Valley of Jehoshaphat, on the eastern side of Jerusalem, between the city and the Mount of Olives. This valley is known in Scripture only by the name "the brook Kidron."

The Kidron brook is one of the large drainage basins in the eastern part of Jerusalem – a city whose water source and water conveyance systems to its storage pools were among the decisive factors that dictated the place of its foundation and the directions of its expansion.

In the reforms of Hezekiah, "all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of Yahweh" was carried by the Levites to the brook Kidron (2 Chronicles 29:16); "All the altars for incense took they away, and cast them into the brook Kidron" (2 Chronicles 30:14).

Kidron, in reference to the brook and valley near Jerusalem, is called Cedron in the KJV New Testament (John 18:1). The Kidron Valley is located on the eastern side of the original city of Jebus (Jerusalem) that was conquered by King David.
