2006年9月11日 · I've found out that brick nogging was used for insulation in houses in the 1800's. Early attempt using straw and paper insulation caused rodent infestations and brick was cheep in those days. Plus with no sheathing it did stop the wind. With an R value of 1 it's not very efficient plus adds an increadable amount of weight to the foundation.

2019年8月14日 · The walls are balloon framed (2 story house), with brick nogging that is covered by parging on the inside. Due to the size of the framing (maybe 6″), the parged brick nogging leaves 2.5″ to 3″ of space on the inside.I chipped off a bit of parging to check (see photos).

2013年1月14日 · To make things more interesting all of the stud cavities were filled with nogging, a lower grade brick, which is resting on the foundation. It is ballooned frame so the nogging runs pretty much non stop from the foundation to the top plat. Some of it has been removed but most of it remains as it is desired to be the finished look.

I have been doing construction and remodeling for 25 years and have never run into this particular situation: The stud bays are infilled with mortared in place brick. I have come across the occasional brick in a stud bay, but not where it was clearly infilled on purpose.
