The Brean Down Way provides an 8-mile-long route from the pier at Weston super Mare to the tip of Brean Down. Greenways teamed up with North Somerset Council to deliver this complex cross-border route via the tidal sluices across the River Axe owned by the Environment Agency.

The new path provides a walking and cycling route between Weston-super-Mare and Brean Down via the Brean Cross Sluices over the River Axe and the perfect place to hire bikes in Brean and explore with all of the family.

Cycle along the promenade at Weston-super-Mare and follow the route through Uphill and past Bleadon Nature Reserve. To reach Brean Down either cycle along the harder sand at Brean beach or choose the beach road. The route rises steeply onto the Down, finishing at the abandoned miltary fort.

Explore this beautiful natural pier and enjoy wonderful coastal views on this walk on the Somerset coast. The promontory stands at 318 feet (97 m) high and is a continuation of the Mendip Hills. As such there is some climbing involved but you are rewarded with wonderful views of the Bristol Channel, south Wales and Weston Super Mare.
