Nov 27, 2012 · That would not be good. Sure was good stuff though. I think Brownells sells Belgium Blue, will have to check it out. I have hot blue tanks set up and operating but will have to replace the salts some day soon. Only using them once or twice a year is a pain and was just thinking of going to a "one tank" blue to simplify life a bit.

Jun 4, 2023 · The results are "ok". It doesn't match the Springfield "Hot Salt Bath" blueing, exactly, but it's a little easier on the eyes. I will say, in natural light, it does not look nearly as noticeable as it appears on the photo. As part of this, I examined the axle shoulder of my slide stop (a Wilson Combat Bullet Proof) for protrusions.

Nov 28, 2022 · Royal Blue and Baron Blue are the same hot salt process except Baron appears more highly, mirror polished. Turnbull is a different process-They call it Charcoal blue, its hand satin polished and then cooked in an oven coated with a mixture of chemicals that produces a more subdued gray blue.

Mar 16, 2024 · Some bespoke houses (like Turnbull) can replicate that process and approximate results. Ordinary hot salt bluing can also be gorgeous but can't quite capture the colors that the old methods did. Still, even with hot salt bluing, if the metal prep is brought to a sufficient level, you can be amazed at the depth of gloss and shine.

Nov 28, 2017 · Heat the solution until it reaches a minimum of 253 to 265 degress F and is vigorously boiling. Suspend the parts to blue using the steel wire to suspend them from a rod or piece of wood across the top of the pot. Let them remain in the boiling solution for 20 to 30 minutes depending on the steel and the depth of finish desired.

Nov 26, 2013 · Howdy, For quite a number of years, I helped a buddy of mine's gunsmith business. I've cleaned, repaired, polished and refinished many a gun during that time. I've done a lot of polishing for hot blue salts and blasting for parkerizing. I know the difference in color between Brownell's Oxynate #7 and Du-lite salts.

I now come before the council fire of the elders to ask another question. What do you guys use to stop your bluing salts from creeping up the sides of the tank and onto floor?
