Axel Gear (アクセルギア Akuseru Gia) is the main and recurring antagonist in the Rocket Knight series and poses as the rival of Sparkster. Axel Gear's body is mostly covered in his armor. The only parts visible are his face, ears, tail, and some strands of blonde hair.

Axel Gear is Sparkster's rival and a major antagonist in the Rocket Knight video game series. Sparkster defeats him, but somehow, he always comes back. Axel Gear was taken in by an old fellow named Mifune Sanjulo.

In this fight Axel wears a space suit and carries a large cannon. Upon showing up he immediately fires the cannon, creating a large beam which covers almost the entire screen; the player must either go to the top or bottom of the screen to avoid it, or stay above or below Axel himself.

Upon arriving at the kingdom, Sparkster encounters his arch-nemesis Axel Gear, who had been acting as Rocket Knight in his absence. After destroying a forest shredder, Sparkster is captured under the robot's metallic face, where Axel Gear takes credit for his victory against the enemy.
