Austria currently has 18 autobahns, since 1982 built and maintained by the self-financed ASFiNAG stock company in Vienna, which is wholly owned by the Republic of Austria and earns revenue from road user charges and tolls. Each route bears a number as well as an official name with local reference, which, however, is not displayed on road signs.

Vignettes with periods of validity of 10 days, 2 months or 1 year are available from more than 6,000 outlets in Austria and abroad as well as in the ASFINAG toll shop or the App Unterwegs. The vignette with a validity of 1 day is a new, purely digital product and only available in the ASFINAG toll shop or the ASFINAG app.

In addition to the normal Austrian autobahn sticker, there are tolls for several stretches on the Austrian highway network. Examples include the Brenner Pass autobahn (€11.00, one way), the Tauern autobahn (€13.50), and the Arlberg tunnel (€11.50).

The A1 West Autobahn runs from Vienna to Salzburg and is almost 300 kilometres long. After the German border, it merges into the A8 motorway. Other routes that are about 200 kilometres long are the Pyhrn Autobahn A9, the Tauern Autobahn A10 and the Inntal Autobahn A12.
