Actually, Ashina was already the name of the People and the land in that region and They were under subjugation by other clans like the takamine clan. Isshin simply rallied these people to reclaim said ashina land during the chaos of the sengoku and proclaimed the clan as the ashina clan after the land itself.

If you get to the rooftops in ashina castle where you first made your way around and up to Genichiro, there's a kite you can grapple to which leads to a new bridge across to the Outskirts. Or you can go down through the castle Keep (where Sabimaru and a red eyed ogre were) and then out to the Old Grave idol, which leads to the same new bridge.

Area 1 is behind ashina castle. Easiest way to find it is go to Kuro’s room and exit through the window (Back corner of the room). You should see a lake and a bridge. There are a few things to explore here that are still part of the Ashina castle area but once you’re done cross the bridge to go to the next area. Area 2 is through the sewers.
