2021年2月22日 · Yep. To keep it clear, if you use ferric nitrate to stain the wood, you can call it aqua fortis stain, but not plain aqua fortis. There was an outfit called Wahkon Bay that used to sell ferric nitrate labeled as aqua fortis stain, that may be where the confusion got started. Sorry to hijack the thread, Stephen!

2015年5月1日 · I've used my own mix of aqua fortis as well as aqua fortis from Track of the Wolf with good results. Both worked well, but the production stuff from TOTW was much less finicky. With ideal grain orientation, the chatoyance is minimized, but strength is needed more than beauty in a tool handle. FWIW, curly hickory is fairly common.

2009年11月27日 · The old way Ive been doing it dosnt work as good as aqua fortis but there is a marked difference between just leather dye and acid+leather dye.. Im gonna try and desolve some more wool in the muriatic and see what happens. I think I may have accidentally introduced something in there when I threw in some rusty nails..i think ill try one more time.

2007年9月27日 · Edgar - Since that posting I've found that the muriatic alone doesn't do as good as the Aqua Fortis aka ferric nitrate plus muriatic or you can just get the old/new Wahkon Bay mix which is a combo of both - which btw is chemically a mix of ferric nitrate and ta da ferric chloride known in the old days as aqua regia.
