The tawny pipit (Anthus campestris) is a medium-large passerine bird which breeds in much of the central Palearctic from northwest Africa and Portugal to Central Siberia and on to Inner Mongolia. It is a migrant moving in winter to tropical Africa and the Indian Subcontinent.

Large, slim, sandy-colored pipit with a long and broad eyebrow, a prominent dark area in front of the eye, sparsely streaked back and breast, and a long and pointed pinkish bill. Juveniles are more spotted and may recall other large pipits in wintering areas. Rather distinctive in its wagtail-like stance and foraging behavior.

Adult shows diagnostic combination of pale supercilium, virtually unstreaked chest, bold wing covert bars contrasting with indistinct markings on rest of upperparts, and tail broadly edged white.
