Residency Program - Department of Anesthesiology
The UNC Department of Anesthesiology, which dates back to 1969, has a long tradition of training outstanding anesthesiologists. Our ACGME-accredited program is comprised of 62 residency positions (14 PGY-1 positions and 16 positions in each CA class).

Education - Department of Anesthesiology
Our department formally teaches residents, fellows, and medical students on the specialty of anesthesiology and, through educational outreach programs, educates the medical community on the highest standards of anesthetic care.
Clinical Divisions | Department of Anesthesiology
The Department provides clinical anesthesia services for over 40,000 surgeries each year. Its satellite anesthetizing locations–pain management, consultation, obstetrical anesthesia, emergency resuscitation, acute pain, and preoperative evaluation services-provide services to 7,000 other patients per year.
General Anesthesia Division - Department of Anesthesiology
The Division of General Anesthesia cares for those patients not included in the specialist services such as pediatric and cardiac. It represents the single largest group of anesthesia practitioners, although anesthesiologists within the generalist group also frequently have qualifications and experience within the subspecialty groups.
