Amphiaraus or Amphiaraos (/ ˌ æ m f i ə ˈ r eɪ ə s /; Ancient Greek: Ἀμφιάραος, Ἀμφιάρεως, "very sacred" [1]) was in Greek mythology the son of Oicles, a seer, and one of the leaders of the Seven against Thebes.

Amphiaraus was a king of Argos in Greek mythology, who reigned alongside Iphis and Adrastus, brother of his wife Eriphyle. He was the son of Oecles and Hypermnestra. He participated in the hunt of the Calydonian Boar, and he was also an oracle. He was one of the main characters in the myth of the Seven Against Thebes.

In Greek mythology Amphiaraus was a hero of the war of the Seven Against Thebes who was swallowed up by the earth and transformed into an oracular demigod or daemon (spirit). His oracle at Oropus in Boeotia was one of the most revered in ancient Greece.

Amphiaraus is most famous for being one of the Seven Against Thebes, when Adrastus organised an army to put Polynices back on the throne of Thebes. Amphiaraus foresaw the folly of such an expedition, and his own death, and initially refused to take part in the war.
