To welcome the Mammoth as the College’s new mascot, we asked members of the Amherst College community to give us their best interpretation of what a mammoth sounds like. The results were entertaining, to say the least!

2017年10月20日 · Amherst College Mascot Selection From March 20-31, 2017, all alumni, students, faculty and staff were invited to vote on the five mascot finalists. In total, 9,295 people voted and 4,356 votes were cast in favor of the Mammoths.

College Selects Mammoth as Official Mascot | The Amherst Student
2017年4月4日 · The college’s new mascot, the Mammoth, pays homage to Amherst history. Since 1925, the Beneski Museum of Natural History has housed the skeleton of a mammoth discovered by Amherst Professor Frederick Brewster Loomis.

A total of 2,046 mascot suggestions were received by the November 30 deadline. The committee spent December reviewing submitted mascot ideas and rationale, applying criteria, and winnowing the suggestions down to a list of 30 semifinalists.

Meet our mascot! Tusks up! We have six student-run a cappella groups as well as the Amherst Choral Society, which is made up of four ensembles. Amherst faculty and alumni have included many influential authors, including Robert Frost, David Foster Wallace ’85, Min Jin Lee, and more.
