The Altai-Sayan region is an area of Inner Asia proximate to the Altai Mountains and the Sayan Mountains, near to where Russia, China, Mongolia and Kazakhstan come together. This region is one of the world centers of temperate plant diversity.

The Altai-Sayan Ecoregion (ASER) is one of the last remaining untouched areas of the world, situated on the boundary between Siberian taiga forests and Central Asian deserts. The landscape holds important populations of the near-threatened Altai Argali, the endangered snow leopard, and the critically endangered Mongolian Saiga.

The Altai Mountains (/ ɑːlˈtaɪ /), also spelled Altay Mountains, are a mountain system in Central and East Asia, where Russia, China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan converge, and where the rivers Irtysh and Ob have their headwaters.

The Altai-Sayan ecoregion is located in the territories of Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and China. It encompasses mountain pristine forest ecosystems, surrounded by steppes in the north and east, and by deserts and semi-deserts in the south and west.

AltaiSayan mountain country is included in WWF’s “Global 200”a list of virgin or little changed ecoregions in the world, where more than 90% of the planet’s biodiversity is concentrated. The floral and faunal diversity of AltaiSayan is especially unique for temperate latitudes.
