Alejandro Nicolas Mayorkas (born November 24, 1959) is an American attorney and government official who was the 7th United States secretary of homeland security, serving from 2021 until 2025.

Alejandro "Ali" Mayorkas was the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security in the Biden administration from 2021 to 2025. The U.S. Senate confirmed Mayorkas on February 2, 2021, by a vote of 56-43. Mayorkas, the 14th secretary since the department was created in 2002, is the first Latino and immigrant to hold the position.

Mayorkas began his law career in private practice before joining the US Attorney’s office in Los Angeles in 1989. In 1998, President Bill Clinton nominated Mayorkas to be the youngest US Attorney. After Clinton left office, Mayorkas left government and returned to private practice during the years of the George W. Bush administration.
