What bonding allows chloroaluminate (AlCl4-) to form?
2018年9月24日 · How is $\ce{AlCl4-}$ formed when $\ce{Al}$ only has $3$ electrons in it's outershell. It would be able to give $3$ electrons away with $\ce{AlCl3}$ for it to have a full outershell but how does it give another one away to the 4th $\ce{Cl}$? Wouldn't that cause it to be unstable as it wouldn't have a full outershell anymore?
Why is Aluminium Chloride a Lewis Acid if it's an ionic compound?
In my textbook it says in the reaction $\ce{AlCl3 + Cl- -> AlCl4-}$, Aluminium Chloride ($\ce{AlCl3}$) has six valence electrons and accepts a lone pair from $\ce{Cl-}$, but wouldn't that mean the aluminium atom covalently bonded with the three chlorine atoms to get six electrons (which is wrong as it's ionic)?
Comparison Of Lewis Acidity - Chemistry Stack Exchange
2016年8月11日 · AlCl3 + RCl → AlCl4(-) indicating that AlCl3 is a Lewis Acid but SiCl4 + RCl → SiCl5(-) ????? So, this tells me that AlCl3 > SiCl4 in terms of electron accepting behavior. Now, don't get me wrong: pentacoordinated Si is well known. One of the failures of the Lewis Acid concept is that, as far as I know, there is no unambiguous way to ...
halides - Mixed chloride vs tetrachloroaluminate in nomenclature …
2024年12月14日 · It may be formally correct for the summary formula, ignoring the structure and the presence of [AlCl4]-. But saying potassium tetrachloroaluminate has the formula AlCl4K is a kind of oxymoron. // More logically consistent would be aluminium potassium tetrachloride AlCl4K and potassium tetrachloroaluminate K[AlCl4], while both being the ...
organic chemistry - Can't aluminium chloride do electrophilic ...
2021年5月7日 · Once the acid base has happened I doubt that $\ce{AlCl4-}$ would still behave as an electrophile. Footnote: $\ce{AlCl3}$ is a strong lewis acid, this is why we don't conduct friedel-craft reaction in water which is why we always see anhydrous $\ce{AlCl3}$ mentioned in this reaction. Most commonly preferred media is $\ce{CS2}$.

2020年1月1日 · Tetrafluoroborate salts, such as lithium tetrafluoroborate, are reasonably stable in aqueous solutions. Does the same hold for sodium tetrachloroaluminate as well or does it end up as $$\\ce{NaAlCl4 +
Friedel-Crafts Alkylation Using Alkenes: Mechanism
The Friedel-Crafts alkylation is another example of an electrophilic aromatic substitution. I've drawn the mechanism below showing the formation of cyclohexylbenzene.
Explanation of bond angles in the aluminium chloride dimer
2017年10月17日 · In order to attain stability $\ce{AlCl3}$ dimerises to $\ce{Al2Cl6}$ whose structure is depicted as: I want to understand why one of the bond angles is $79^\circ$ and the other $118^\circ$.
