Gnostics held that she was the syzygy, or female twin, of Jesus, i.e. the Bride of Christ, and the Holy Spirit of the Trinity. She is occasionally referred to by the term Achamōth (Ἀχαμώθ, Hebrew: חכמה chokmah) and as Prunikos (Προύνικος). In the Nag Hammadi texts, Sophia is the lowest aeon or anthropic emanation of the godhead.

What or who exactly is Achamoth? I thought it was just another name for Sophia but I've seen some references treat them as separate entities. Is she the same, or not? Thanks for helping me understand.

When Sophia-Achamoth goes about her task of creating she can only produce a creature of the lower order -- Ialdabaoth, who becomes the creator of our physical world. The Gnostics say he is identical with the Demiurge or Jehovah of the Old Testament.

Achamoth, filled with some of the light-power of Sophia and left in the material chaos, gives birth to the Demiurge. She longs to return to the Pleroma but cannot pass the Limit, that boundary which exists between the spheres of the archons and the fullness of the Pleroma.
