2004年2月7日 · Out of curiosity what would be a better choice for black bear within 75 yards: 45/70 lever action with 350gr Hornady flatpoints or 30/06 pump with 220gr or 180gr JSP[e.g.Partitions,etc.],using fullhouse loadings?Both rifles using leaf or receiver sights limit me to ~75 yards[or less],and in the woods-realistically-it's less.

2004年7月16日 · Don't pay any attention to those velocity and energy numbers when comparing such distant projectials as the 45-70 and a 12ga slug. These two projectiles are "worlds apart" in capability and proven performance. The 45-70 with the right bullet and matched velocity will kill anything mother nature can offer.

2017年3月23日 · These rifles were made in both 40-65 and 45-70 with pistol grip, shotgun butt and round barrel. There is a 40-65 BPCR and a 40-65 Traditional Sported listed in gun broker. They both have pistol grip stocks and the 45-70 versions look exactly like them. They were cataloged a few years as the Winchester 1885 Traditional Sporter.

2019年1月5日 · 45-70 has a much better bullet selections and better commercial availability for ammo. 45-70 is available in a lot more platforms, single shots, lever guns, bolt actions and revolvers. Why anyone would want to hang on to one of those in a revolver in either cartridge when they pull the trigger is beyond me, but to each his/her own.

2019年2月8日 · Retired and on a fixed income and already handload for three 45-70 rifles -- Handi, Win. 1886 and Uberti 1885 Highwall -- but like what I've read about the 9.3. Thought I'd check here for some feedback (asked the same question in the Single Shot forum). Thanks. Never shot a medium bore, mostly .308 and .30-06 and, of course, .45-70.

45-70 VS 375HH - Graybeard Outdoors
2008年3月17日 · I keep hearing the comparison of these to and will the 45-70 kill DG in Africa, and the 45-70 is just as good. I also hear that in most African countries the 375hh is the minimum. That should end the argument, unlwss of course you have a rifle in 45-70 cal. that is stamped 375hh on the barrel and shoots 375hh bullets.
45/70 for Lion - Graybeard Outdoors
2004年3月26日 · If you can use a 45-70 to kill the largest preditor on the planet (brown bear), how can it fall short on lion which is significanlty less of an animal. I think all this talk about the 45-70 falling short for lion is a bunch of BS. I would use a 30-06 without hesitation on lion and some lesser calibers yet.
.45-70 as Alternative to .30 for a Bullet Caster?
2012年3月3日 · 30-06: Even at 1450fps the ballistic coefficient of a 180- -220ish gr. 30cal. bullet is way better than the 45-70 bullets, thus greatly improved wind and elev. factors. There is good reason the schuetzen shooters of old went to the smaller calibers for 200yd. matches; the groups (thus scores) got better. Get the H&R 45-70 and play with it.
