42nd Street is a major crosstown street in the New York City borough of Manhattan, spanning the entire breadth of Midtown Manhattan, from Turtle Bay at the East River, to Hell's Kitchen at the Hudson River on the West Side.

The Daily News Building, also known as The News Building, is a skyscraper at 220 East 42nd Street in the East Midtown neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City, United States. The original tower was designed by architects Raymond Hood and John Mead Howells in the Art Deco style, and it was erected between 1928 and 1930.

A two-mile long 42nd Street crosses Manhattan from the East River in the east to the Hudson River in the west part of NYC, and it is known for its busy pace, heavy traffic, theaters -- New Amsterdam Theater, New Victory Theater, Regal E-Walk Theater complex, movie theater AMC Empire 25, also Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.

In the early 20th century, the 42nd Street was the busiest cross-town street in Manhattan, especially after Grand Central Terminal opened in 1913. By the late 1920s, subway lines, elevated lines, and bus routes all stopped at West 42nd Street. It thus became a hub of the City.
