2007年3月1日 · Second smartass answer - sell it to somebody looking for a 396 and buy yourself a 454 block and build a 454 or even a 496. Don't give up the cubes unless you have to. If you're in love with the short stroke engine, buy a steel crank off ebay for $200 and build a 427.

Then if you build that engine with the same approach that you would take with a 454, the difference would not be enough for you to notice. And you might even be able to bore it .090.

2010年10月4日 · Even the lower perf 396 for 69 had same shortblock as 325/350hp motor,it just had dif heads with larger comb chambers to lower comp to 9.0 for reg fuel along with 2brl carb & intake & cam from the 325hp 396 too. So add 063 heads with smaller chambers increasing comp to 10.25.1 and your back to a real 396/325hp L35 motor perf lvl.

I let it idle a long time, took it for a drive, never got over 170:hurray: but the stock stat for this engine '67 396 is 195 degrees.

Both ran low 12's, the big block won by a few tenths. The small block was cheaper, and much easier to work on, and maintenance is easier in terms of small parts costs.
